Admittedly, I have been fighting myself for the last few months, challenging my own consciousness; it’s what’s keeping me sane.

The Historical Record Remains Under Revision

There is a peculiar injustice in being known by people who have never really taken the time to know you.
They collect fragments of your behaviour, add a rumour or two, and construct a character they confidently call you, until you find yourself cast in somebody else’s story without ever having been consulted about the role.

Then comes the moment you discover something about yourself that changes how you understand your own history.
Old struggles begin to make sense, and experiences once mistaken for personal failings acquire a different meaning.
The events remain the same, but your understanding of them changes.
One cannot help but wonder how differently things might have unfolded had one known that sooner.

You might expect others to reconsider their conclusions, yet some remain remarkably attached to their original version of events, even when they have never truly understood the life they presume to explain.
Those who offer advice can sometimes mistake the confidence of speaking for the wisdom of listening.

As Gentleman Jack, I have no objection to a thorough historical investigation, but I do object to people delivering their verdict without examining the evidence.
It is curious how easily familiarity can be mistaken for truth, or how readily the accepted version of events becomes more important than questioning it.

Yet a story does not become true simply because a community agrees upon it, nor does another become false because fewer people are willing to believe it.

Perhaps our past shapes who we become, but perhaps who we become also changes what our past means to us.
I cannot travel backwards to correct every conversation or retrieve every rumour, nor should I spend the rest of my life auditioning for a fair hearing.

My history is still unfolding, and I reserve the right to understand it differently as I learn more.

Gentleman Jack, at your service. The historical record remains under revision.
